

Francesca Longo Represents Ã×À¼ÌåÓýat the 2025 IAPSS World Congress

Ã×À¼ÌåÓýExecutive Committee member Francesca Longo took part in the roundtable on Advocacy in Political Science at the 2025 IAPSS Virtual World Congress, held on 21 May 2025. Moderated by Soumyadeep Chowdhury, Deputy Head of the IAPSS Academic Department, the session also featured Jonathan Polk, ECPR Executive Committee member.
Participants at the roundtable discussed the role of Ã×À¼ÌåÓýand ECPR in promoting academic freedom, accessible membership, and open access publishing. Speakers addressed growing concerns over state-university relations, declining academic freedom, and the precarious conditions facing scholars and students. The impact of populism, democratic backsliding, and the COVID-19 pandemic were also examined, reinforcing the urgency of advocacy. The session concluded by emphasizing the need for stronger global partnerships to defend academic freedom and support political science.
The 2025 IAPSS Virtual World Congress was organized under the theme Advocacy in a Fragmented World: Power, Voice, and Transformation and took place from 20 to 23 May 2025. As the flagship event attended by hundreds of students each year, the IAPSS World Congress serves as a platform to present and discuss research with fellow students worldwide. During the event, participants were involved in a wide range of activities, including student-led panels, academic lectures, and study tours.
